COUSINS…OR WERE THEY SISTERS?

“Why am I here? I said I wasn’t doing this again,” Bea says with a groan as we get out of East’s car.

“No. You said you wouldn’t help me go back in time again. Tonight is about new kisses,” I remind her.

“Semantics.”

“Truth.”

“Alright kids, let’s try to get along for one night,” East says, putting an arm around each of us as we walk into the party one of our college acquaintances is throwing for his new business venture.

“We get along fine.” Most of the time. Not lately, but that’s only temporary, or at least I hope it is.

“I’m going to find a drink…or fifty.” Bea tells us, moving away from me like I have some contagious disease.

“What’s her problem? She got attacked by some chickens. I was shot at.”

“You really don’t get it, do you?”

“Get what? What am I supposed to get?”

“We’ve talked about this. About you and Bea.”

“That’s not a thing.”

“Why not?”

“Because she’s Bea. Why would her and I ever be a thing?”

“Dude,” he says, his face going pale beneath his spray tan.

“What?”

“She was behind you,” he says, sighing heavily.

“Who?”

“Bea. She heard what you said.”

“So. She doesn’t think of me like that.” I turn around, but she’s gone. “Where is she?”

“Just…go find your kiss. I’ll take care of her. Just like always.”

“Always? Really? I’ve taken plenty care of her over the years, too.”

“I know…it’s just…I’ve gotta go. Text me when you’re ready to leave, and I’ll meet you at the door.”

“She’ll be okay, right? I mean, she knows I think she’s great, just not for me.”

“I’ll take care of her.”

I watch him walk away, and I have to fight the urge to run after him. Bea and I would never work. She’s too…perfect. There, I admitted it. I don’t think I deserve her, and like I’ve told myself before, what if I kissed her and there was nothing? It would ruin us both. I couldn’t live with myself if I ruined her. Not at all. I give myself a mental shake—for about the hundredth time since this all started—and prepare to get my drink, and lips, on.

Two hours later, I’m on a couch in a corner, with two women all over me. They take turns kissing my lips, and then my abs. I’m only semi-hard, but I’m blaming that on the alcohol, and not the company. Or the fact that I’m worrying about Bea.

“It’s time to go, Kye,” East says, standing over me.

The girls make whiny noises, which takes my semi down to none immediately. I don’t like whiny chicks. “This was fun, ladies, but I’ve gotta go. Have a great night,” I tell them, pulling down my t-shirt as I stand on wobbly legs.

“Are they twins?” Kye asks, as he helps me walk away.

“Dunno. I think they said sisters, or cousins, or who knows?”

“Always keeping it classy.”

“You know it.”

“Any sparks?”

“What do you think?”

“I think you wouldn’t have been making out with both if you’d felt something with one.”

“Exactly.”

“Where’s Bea?” I ask as we walk out, realizing she’s not with us.
